We're currently putting together our events programme for Summer 2009. We have previously been joined by Neil Gaiman, Vivian French, Cathy Cassidy, Catherine Rayner, and Steve Augarde and will be welcoming a number of others authors. If you'd like to be kept updated with the occasional email about upcoming events, then please join our mailing list.
All events are free unless otherwise stated, but places are limited and tickets must be booked prior to the event.

Michelle the Scallop
Julie Hegarty grew up on the picturesque coast of South Wales, where her days were spent exploring the rock pools and paddling on the beach. Soon after moving to Edinburgh the character of Michelle the scallop started to take shape.
Come along to The Children's Bookshop and listen to Julie read, and chat to her about the characters in her books before Julie signs a copy of your favourite Michelle the Scallop book.

We hold a weekly story telling session, every Tuesday, where we read from our wide range of picture books. Please bring your children along to hear some old favourites and discover some new ones!

Deathwatch
Someone is watching Cat McPherson. Is it a young schizophrenic, a retired scientist, or Cat’s ex-boyfriend? Or it could be someone else entirely...
To celebrate the launch of her fantastic new book, Deathwatch, Nicola Morgan will be joining us at The Children's Bookshop to sign copies of it and her other books.

Lari Don, professional storyteller and author of the wonderfully titled First Aid for Fairies and other Fabled Beasts will be joining us at The Children's Bookshop to tell us her favourite Dragon Tales. Lari will tell us some traditional stories that have inspired her writing.

The Children’s Bookshop will be the venue for a Princess Poppy event hosted by Janey Louise Jones, the author of the very successful Princess Poppy books.
Come along in your favourite princess dress and listen to Janey read from her books, and chat to her about your most loved stories and characters before Janey signs a copy of your favourite Princess Poppy book.

Vivian French, author of the tremendously popular Tiara Club books will be joining us at The Children’s Bookshop. Vivian is one of our favourite authors and was a perfect hostess at last year's Tiara Club Party
Vivian will be visiting us to launch her new books in the very popular Tiara Club series. Chat to her about your favourite characters and stories, before getting Vivian to sign a copy of your favourite Tiara Club book.

Catherine Rayner is one of our favourite authors and illustrators. Her first book, Augustus and his Smile, the story of a tiger who wakes one morning to find that he has lost his smile, was one of our best selling books of last year. On Friday 13th February at 3.30pm, Catherine will be visiting us to launch new book, Sylvia and Bird, and signing copies of her books.

Church Hill Theatre
So far, the (now very well-read) proof copy of Neil Gaiman's new book, The Graveyard Book, has been our favourite book of 2008 and we are delighted to be able to invite you to join us for an evening with Neil Gaiman at the Church Hill Theatre, Edinburgh on the 28th October at 7pm to celebrate the launch of The Graveyard Book.
Neil will be reading from the book and talking about it and his other writing, followed by a Question and Answer session. Finally, Neil will sign copies of The Graveyard Book.
Tickets are £5 with £5 off The Graveyard Book on the night, and are available from The Children's Bookshop, 219 Bruntsfield Place; call into the shop or phone us on 0131 447 1917 if you'd like to reserve tickets and order by post.
It's nearly Hallowe'en, so why not come in fancy dress - there might even be a prize for the person who looks as though they've made the most effort!

Simon Bartram, author and illustrator of the hugely popular Man on the Moon Watch Out For Sprouts and Dougal’s Deep Sea Diary, will be joining us at The Children’s Bookshop. Simon will read from Man on the Moon, followed by the new sequel, Bob’s Best Ever Friend.
Simon’s books will be available for purchase and signing.

As Paddington Bear turns 50 this year we are going to have a party. We will be celebrating Paddington’s birthday at The Children's Bookshop all day on Saturday, 21st June 2008. There will be a 10% discount on all Paddington books, with a further 10% if you spend more than £20. And, of course, there will also be marmalade sandwiches available all day.

Masses of people would like to write children's books but how easy is it? Acclaimed writer Steve Augarde, mostly recently the creator of The Various trilogy and author of many other children's books, will be here to talk about the joys and problems of writing for children and to give plenty of practical advice on how to get your work in front of agents and publishers. He'll also be taking questions and signing copies of The Various series, including the recently published final part; Winter Wood.
