Author visits, signings and readings

We're currently putting together our events programme for 2008. We have already been joined by Vivian French and Cathy Cassidy, Catherine Rayner, Steve Augarde and Lari Don and will be welcoming a number of others authors. If you'd like to be kept updated with the occasional email about upcoming events, then please join our mailing list.

All events are free unless otherwise stated, but places are limited and tickets must be booked prior to the event.


Forthcoming Events


Simon Bartram

3pm, Tuesday 26th August 2008

Simon Bartram, author and illustrator of the hugely popular Man on the Moon Watch Out For Sprouts and Dougal’s Deep Sea Diary, will be joining us at The Children’s Bookshop. Simon will read from Man on the Moon, followed by the new sequel, Bob’s Best Ever Friend.

Simon’s books will be available for purchase and signing.

Suggested audience: toddlers and pre-schoolers.


Storytime

resumes 10.30am, Tuesday 2nd September

We hold a weekly story telling session, every Tuesday, where we read from our wide range of picture books. Please bring your children along to hear some old favourites and discover some new ones!

Queen Vivian's Tiara Party

4pm, Friday 22nd February 2008

The Children’s Bookshop will be the venue for a Tiara Party based on the very successful Tiara Club books by local author Vivian French.

Come along in your favourite party dress and listen to Vivian read from her books, help her to create a new story and decorate your very own tiara before Vivian signs a copy of your favourite Tiara Club book.

Tickets are £2 per child which includes juice and one of our very special Tiara Club cakes! The cost of the ticket is redeemable against one of Vivian’s books.

Suggested audience: 4-8 years.


Cathy Cassidy

5pm, Tuesday 4th March 2008

Cathy Cassidy, the brilliant author of Dizzy, Indigo Blue and Scarlet will be joining us here, in Edinburgh to talk to you! Cathy will read from her latest book, Lucky Star which is just out in paperback, answer your questions, and tell you about life as an author. Cathy’s books will also be available for purchase and signing on the evening.

Catherine Rayner

11am, Monday 7th April 2008

Catherine Rayner's first book, Augustus and his Smile, the story of a tiger who wakes one morning to find that he has lost his smile, is one of our favourite picture books and Catherine has two beautiful new books out in the next couple of weeks. On Monday 7th April at 11am, Catherine will be visiting us to read from Posy and Harris Finds His Feet and signing copies of her books.

Lari Don

4pm, Friday 11th April 2008

To celebrate the publication of her first novel First Aid for Fairies and Other Fabled Beasts, Lari Don is joining us at The Children's Bookshop. Lari will read from First Aid for Fairies and Other Fabled Beasts; tell a traditional story that has inspired her writing and do her absolute best to inspire you!

Steve Augarde

7.30pm, Thursday 8th May 2008

Masses of people would like to write children's books but how easy is it? Acclaimed writer Steve Augarde, mostly recently the creator of The Various trilogy and author of many other children's books, will be here to talk about the joys and problems of writing for children and to give plenty of practical advice on how to get your work in front of agents and publishers. He'll also be taking questions and signing copies of The Various series, including the recently published final part; Winter Wood.

Suggested audience: 12 years to adult.


Paddington Bear's Birthday Party

Saturday 21st June 2008

As Paddington Bear turns 50 this year we are going to have a party. We will be celebrating Paddington’s birthday at The Children's Bookshop all day on Saturday, 21st June 2008. There will be a 10% discount on all Paddington books, with a further 10% if you spend more than £20. And, of course, there will also be marmalade sandwiches available all day.
