Fidra Books is based in Edinburgh and run by Vanessa and Malcolm Robertson. We published our first book in 2005. From 2007 until October 2012 we owned The Edinburgh Bookshop – it was a success and we were short-listed for several trade awards, ending our time there by winning the Scottish Independent Retail Award for best bookshop in Scotland.

Running a bookshop is all-encompassing and highly stressful though and the publishing side of things was becoming horribly neglected. Selling the bookshop we'd built up from nothing and steered through some choppy seas was a wrench but we found the perfect person to take it over and returned to publishing.

Getting everything back on track is going to be hard work but we're looking forward to the challenge.
